Doug started in real
estate in 1991 just as the market was losing steam, similar to
the current market. Back in 1989-1990 prices had risen quickly
and houses were selling with multiple bids overnight, but the
door slammed shut and homes were “on-the-market” for three to
six months in 1991. Realtors had to work diligently to help sell
homes much like they do today.
At DS & T we have seen first hand the experience that Doug
gained in those difficult times. It has helped him understand
what needs to be done to get homes sold. He says the first step
is always telling your clients the truth about prices, but also
being realistic about setting the right stage. Doug says,
“Clean-ups are easy but sometimes people need a bit more help.
My clients have been skeptical when I have told them about “my
design team” at DS&T. But they know, thanks to a little help
from HGTV, that homes can be transformed with the help of a
professional eye moving some furniture or adding some color.
DS&T has made some unique homes work in a way that the owners
had never imagined and helped achieve the ultimate goal of
getting them sold.”
Doug
lives in Vienna with his wife and two children. In 2004, they
bought and remodeled a rambler by building on a second floor,
adding a front porch and removing walls. He says it was a full
time job, but he really learned a lot from the experience. He
has been able to incorporate those lessons learned into helping
his clients prepare their homes for the market, whether they are
remodeling, upgrading, or just sprucing it up before listing it.
Doug’s
start in real estate came with Town & Country Real Estate in
Vienna and he has been with RE/MAX Presidential since 1994. He
is a Life Top Producer with the Northern Virginia Association of
Realtors, an NVAR Million Dollar Club Member, and member of the
RE/MAX International Hall of Fame. Doug also enjoys coaching his
son’s soccer team, photography, gardening, sailing, and
vacationing.
