This month, DS&T is proud to recognize our Business Buddy, 1-800 Pack Rat. For over a year, we have depended upon General Manager, Ralph Miller, and his team of temporary storage experts at the Chantilly, Virginia office. Home staging often involves removing items from a home about to be placed on the market in order to reduce clutter and make the house more presentable. Realizing these items must be stored somewhere, we turn to Ralph to solve the situation. In no time at all, he supplies the right temporary storage solution for our clients (either on- or off-site) and takes the worry out of what to do with those extra-special “heirlooms” that just don’t fit in a staged-for-sale property.

1-800 Pack Rat began with the idea of making self-storage and self-moving easier and simpler. Founder, Tim Lockamy, owned a traditional self-storage business in North Carolina. He was always looking for ways to improve his service and attract more customers.  What he found was that besides clean and safe storage, people mostly wanted it close and convenient.

As Tim looked for ways to get a storage unit closer to his customers’ home, he discovered that delivering a full-size storage container, without tilting or rolling it off or otherwise knocking everything around inside, was no easy task. He sketched out a portable storage design and then sought out one of the most experienced heavy-equipment manufacturers in the country. Together they built a system that lifts a fully-loaded container without swaying or shifting and gently place it anywhere he could drive the truck. And there you have it: The simplest way to store or move your stuff.
